QUONSET HUT INN
Project Architect: Chris Allen, CWA Studios
Located along California’s Central Coast, the Quonset Hut Inn repurposes an existing Quonset structure into a modest coastal hotel. The building’s curved steel form, originally designed for efficiency and durability, is adapted to provide a series of simple, comfortable guest rooms that engage directly with the surrounding landscape. The project maintains the integrity of the original structure while introducing new elements that support its contemporary use. Natural light, ventilation, and material restraint guide the design approach, creating a quiet and durable environment for rest and reflection. Through minimal intervention, the Quonset Hut Inn demonstrates how utilitarian architecture can be reimagined to serve new purposes, extending the life of a historic form within a changing context.
